City of Calgary Residential Speed Limit Reductions: Consultation Period Ends October 26th

This just in from the City of Calgary:

"Responding to a notice of Motion from Council, The City of Calgary reviewed options to improve safety on neighbourhood roads by reducing the unposted speed limit. Recommendations were presented to the SPC on Transportation and Transit on September 30, 2020 and the following recommendations were approved:

  1. Changing the unposted speed limit in Calgary from 50 km/h to 40 km/h

  2. To post a 50 km/h speed limit on most Collector roadways.

There will be a public hearing on November 2, 2020 on the proposed bylaw to change the unposted speed limit in Calgary to 40 km/h. If you would like to submit a written submission about the proposed bylaw, please submit your feedback before noon on October 26, 2020 by  using this form.

For residents who want to attend and speak to the proposed bylaw, covid-19 protocols will be in place. Please contact publicsubmissions@calgary.ca to register and receive further information on how to call in, or participate in person. If you’re looking for more information on what roads could see changes to the speed limit the project website has maps of every ward where the changes could be applied. You’ll also find the travel time calculator on the site. For the majority of Calgarians, changes to the speed limit on residential and collector roads will add under two minutes to the daily commute."
